Privacy Laws & Business Journal: Cyber attack puts charity trustees’ duties under the spotlight

Cyber Intelligence Director Mark Tibbs, Associate Molly Hunter and Data Protection Advisor Jon Baines recently wrote an article for Privacy Laws & Business journal. The article discusses the importance for charities to conduct risk analyses to understand the appropriate level of security required by taking adequate steps to protect the charities’ computer networks.

In May 2018, the ICO served the society with a monetary penalty (sometimes referred to as a “fine”) of £100,000, and noted that the society’s failings had left many of its supporters open to financial or identity fraud, as well as exposing their religious belief.
